About Saanich, BC

Saanich is located at the southern End of Vancouver Island and is the largest district in the 13 municipalities and districts within Greater Victoria. It is also the most populated on Vancouver Island of 120,000 residents. The urban, and rural community is home to many small and large businesses, farmers, artists, and entrepreneurs. Saanich borders six other districts including Victoria City and is home to the University of Victoria, and Camosun College.

Saanich Parks and Recreation

There are several parks, beaches, and natural trail areas for hiking. Saanich provides recreation centres and public swimming pools for its residents and guests. The Cycling Network in Saanich has many cycling paths and roads that extend throughout Greater Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula.

Fun Facts

Saanich is one of the oldest farming communities in British Columbia. The influence of early farmers can still be seen in many of the old buildings and structures throughout the area. There are over 100 hobby farms, agricultural farms, and industrial farms in Saanich!

Saanich is the community with the largest population on Vancouver island, with over 114,000 people living in the district. The Saanich government motto is Populo Serviendo, meaning “serving the people.”
